Research Question

In today's socio-political environment, racial and ethnic inequality is still at the forefront of many industries, resulting in higher rates of unemployment amongst immigrants than native applicants (Atkins, 2007). Though the extent of discrimination may vary depending on national context, it is conclusive from previous studies that a hiring bias is prominent.

My research aims to  understand how immigrants are discriminated within the interview process by analysing and comparing personal experiences of victims of discrimination, in order to form common themes and grasp the types of racial discrimination. This is a significant area to study because it dives into the specific emotions and experiences of participants and will help develop an in-depth account of types of discrimination occuring in Canada. The results can be applied to develop a model for the essence of discrimination and can be integrated into future recruitment processes in companies.
